MEET THE OWNERS
Dick and Aome Wheeler are the heart and soul behind Molokai Plumerias. Dick, the founder and visionary, originally came to Molokai in 1982 to manage Molokai Honey Co. after a successful beekeeping career on the mainland. When he and Aome arrived, the ten-acre property they took over had once been planted with plumerias, but by then, most of the trees had died from neglect. However, the surviving 40-50 bushes sparked a vision in Dick’s mind. Aome, his wife of 50 years (as of 2020), has always been by his side, bringing her own expertise and care to the farm. Aome is the chief lei maker, and nearly every lei sent out by the farm is crafted with her experienced hands. Together, they turned their passion for flowers into a thriving business. Today, they continue to run the farm together, with Dick picking the flowers and handling shipments, while Aome’s artistry brings the beauty of their plumerias to life through her leis. Their dedication and love for each other, the land, and the farm have been the driving force behind their success.
